Module 1 Course Setup/Importing Data into CostX®
In Module 1 we shall import a CostX® Project file which incorporates four previously created CostX® Building files. We shall also import three Rate Libraries, a Code Library and a Phraseology library which will all be used in conjunction to complete this training exercise. These libraries will be explained in more detail throughout the training exercise, highlighting how and where they may typically be used.
-
Module 2 Introduction to Workbooks
Once established, Workbooks in CostX® can be held in templates for copying onto future jobs, or can be copied from previous jobs, complete with any links to Dimension Groups, Rate Libraries, etc. For the purposes of this exercise we shall start by looking at a prepopulated Workbook in order to understand the structure of the workbook, before moving on to creating your own fresh, new simple workbook.
-
Module 3 Quantity Sheets
This module will demonstrate various options on how Quantity cells and Quantity Build-up Sheets can be populated within a Workbook.
-
Module 4 Workbook Tools
In this module we shall look at some useful workbook tools and use a selection of them to identify and correct quality assurance issues within the workbook.
-
Module 5 Rate Sheets
Within CostX®, a special sheet type named Rate is provided which is used for rate breakdowns.
The Rate sheet provides a structured layout for rate breakdowns which includes standard built-in formulas as well as flexibility. The Rate sheet contains the following columns: Code, Description, Quantity, Unit, Rate, Factor, Total, Include. The Rate sheet also includes built-in, automatic formula creation allowing the total and include columns to be filled out when the Quantity and Rate fields are filled in.
Any values in the Include column are brought up to the level above.
info Please note that we will be utilizing rates from existing prepopulated rate libraries throughout this exercise. We won’t be going into detail on rate libraries and how they are built and added into CostX®. There is a separate Training Module called ‘Rate Libraries’ which takes you through more detail on this.

Module 6 Workbook Exports
Once a workbook has been generated or completed, CostX® provides the ability to export the the Workbook data in various formats depending on the external requirement.
For the purpose of this exercise, we will be focusing on the Excel Export ouputs. However, if any of the other options are of interest or are a requirement, please Click the CostX® Help button or use the F1 key on the keyboard to open CostX® Help. Once CostX® Help is open, search for the Export option required. This will display detailed information for the corresponding export option.
