Course Description
This course aims to inform and demonstrate the principles of 2D measurement and the principles of more advanced use of workbooks using iTWO costX®.
info The exercises are based around the use of example files and templates which have been developed for demonstration and training purposes only. Actual implementation of the software and templates will depend on users own resources and specific reporting requirements.

Course Features
Course Content
- 2D Measure (2D)
- Workbooks (WB)
This section aims to inform and demonstrate the principles of 2D measurement using iTWO costX®.
-
Module 1 Course Setup
In this module you will learn how to open iTWO costX®, create a new Project, and create a new Building associated with that Project and navigate between Projects/Buildings.
-
Module 2 Adding Drawings (PFC 2-1)
In this module you will learn how to add and prepare a variety of common two dimensional drawing file formats for measurement.
-
Module 3 Drawing Navigation
In this module you will learn and revisit how to find your way around the drawings we previously added, this is mostly for information and quick reference. They are reinforced during the training.
-
Module 4 Drawing Tools
In this module you will learn how to manipulate the drawings as per your preference with the given information contained in the drawing and how to compare drawings.
-
Module 5 Dimension Groups
In this module you will learn how to add Dimension Groups as well as their associated properties, before proceeding to measure into them in the following module.
info In iTWO costX®, Dimensions are measured from drawings and placed into Dimension Groups, which are themselves collected together in Dimension Group Folders. Once established, Dimension Groups can be held in templates or libraries ready for use on future jobs, with new Dimension Groups being created as needed.
-
Module 6 Point Type Measurement
In this module you will learn how to measure using point mode.
-
Module 7 Line Type Measurement
In this module you will learn how to measure using line mode.
-
Module 8 Measurement Options/ Features
In this module you will learn about the different measurement options and perform more advanced measurements, we build on existing knowledge and in light of the training flow suppose we receive more drawings or need to add dimension groups later on, to demonstrate the flexibility of the software.
-
Module 9 Keyboard Shortcuts
In this module you will recap the different measurement techniques and have a reference list of shortcuts.
-
Module 10 Drawing Outputs
In this module you will learn how to display information on the drawings for reporting purposes.
-
Module 11 Dimension Outputs
In this module you will learn how to export your dimensions to Excel.
This section aims to inform and demonstrate the principles of more advanced use of workbooks in iTWO costX®.
-
Module 1 Getting Started
In this module we shall look at how one would go about opening the iTWO costX application, adding an iTWO costX Project and Building and explain the terminology differences between the two.
-
Module 2 Introduction to Workbooks
In this module we shall Introduce basic functionality of the workbook and focus on how the workbook is structured.
-
Module 3 Import Workbook from Excel
It is also possible to import data from a single Excel file to multiple levels of an iTWO costX workbook. This would typically be used when importing a Bill of Quantities received from another stakeholder, or when you are a new iTWO costX user and you’d like to import your existing excel templates into an iTWO costX workbook to ‘fast-track’ your workbook setup.
There are many ways data might be stored in an Excel file. Therefore, cleaning and organizing your data before importing will make the process easier and yield better results. For the purposes of this exercise, we shall use existing Bill of Quantities prepared in Excel spreadsheets which have already been cleaned up and organized for illustration purposes. If any further assistance is required, please Click the iTWO costX Help button or use the F1 key on the keyboard to open iTWO costX Help. Once iTWO costX Help is open, search for ‘Import Workbook from Excel’. This will display detailed information on this topic. In this case, formulas will not be maintained from the Excel spreadsheet.
Throughout this module, we will be covering three methods on how one could typically Import a Workbook from Excel. These methods are in no particular order of importance or ease of use. They are merely three different methods that one could use depending on the arrangement of the Excel spreadsheet that is used when importing the data.
-
Module 4 Using Dimension Groups in a Workbook
This module will demonstrate in more detail, various options on how Quantity cells and Quantity Build-up Sheets can be populated within a Workbook using Dimension Groups.
-
Module 5 Workbook Tools
In this module we shall look at some useful workbook tools and use a selection of them to identify and correct quality assurance issues within the workbook.
-
Module 6 Workbook Exports
Once a workbook has been generated or completed, iTWO costX provides the ability to export the Workbook data in various formats depending on the external requirement.
The Export options include the following:
∙ Export Trades to Excel
∙ Export Workbook to Buildsoft Job
∙ Export Workbook to CITE
∙ Export Workbook to DataBuild Bill
∙ Export Workbook to Excel
∙ Export Workbook to Primavera P6
∙ Export Workbook to Tender EXF
For the purpose of this exercise, we will be focusing on the Excel Export ouputs. However, if any of the other options are of interest or are a requirement, please Click the iTWO costX Help button or use the F1 key on the keyboard to open iTWO costX Help. Once iTWO costX Help is open, search for the Export option required. This will display detailed information for the corresponding export option.
